SAFEWAY FOUNDATION AWARDS $2,500 GRANT TO
KIDS R FIRST
The Safeway Foundation recently hosted an awards ceremony to distribute grants to local charities. The Foundation is funded through the generous contributions of Safeway employees throughout its Eastern Division, which operates 132 stores in Northern Virginia, Maryland , Delaware and Washington , DC . The Foundation distributes more than $250,000 annually with special emphasis on organizations in the areas of hunger relief, education, health and human services and special needs.
Among the groups receiving funding was Kids R First, which was awarded $2,500 to support its School Supplies Program, and College and Career Bound Program. CLICK HERE TO VIEW PHOTO

About Kids R First Kids R First is an organization of community volunteers who believe that children are the most important investment of our future. Providing kids from families in need with their supplies at the beginning of each new school year and mini-scholarships for College or Career Bound kids helps to lay a greater foundation for organizational skills, academic success with enhanced self esteem and opportunities for success beyond high school. Kids R First has developed a major partnership with two retailers, Office Depot and Wal-Mart, to purchase school supplies in bulk quantities. In August, 2011 Office Depot and Wal-Mart provided large discounts on supplies to Kids R First so 17,300 kids in need at 88 schools would have their required list of items when returning to school. Office Depot -Reston, VA : Major discounts on school supplies for 16,000 kids at 87 schools in Northern VA. Wal Mart: In 2010 the Walmart in Fair Lakes, VA donated $6,000 in grant funding plus major discounts on School Supplies for 16,000 students. Northrop Grumman - Reston, VA: In 2010 Northrop Grumman showed their commitment to the N.VA community and donated (fourth year in a row) $10,000 to Kids R First.
