Kids R First School Supply Distribution

Volunteers NEEDED ASAP for School Supplies Distribution: July 28-30 (9 a.m.- noon AND 1-4 p.m.)

Who: Teens and those who can do some heavy lifting

Where: Langston Hughes Middle School Cafeteria - Reston, VA

Additional Volunteers (Teens and Adults) NEEDED: August 2-6 and August 9-10 (9a.m.-noon AND 1-4 p.m.)

Work in teams filling the orders for 85 schools that will b receiving supplies for 16,000 students. Each school will pick-up the supplies for their students.

Backpacks: will be donated to the schools we assist through our three partners:

Reston Interfaith : Helping schools in Reston and Herndon

Western Fairfax Christian Ministries : Serving communities of Chantilly, Centreville and Clifton

Generosity Can : Helping schools in the Sterling area

Students who receive free or reduced priced meals will receive their backpack with supplies at their school before classes begin. Any questions, please contact your child's school.

Northrop Grumman presents donation to KRF board members

JK Moving and Storage., - Sterling, VA: Donated two 18 wheeler moving vans to store and transport new school supplies purchased for 15,000 kids as part of Kids R First volunteer efforts in July and August.

About Kids R First

Kids R First is an organization of community volunteers   who believe that children are the most important investment of  our future.  Providing kids from families in need with their supplies at the beginning of  each new school year and  mini-scholarships for  College or Career Bound kids  helps to lay a greater foundation for  organizational skills,  academic success with enhanced self esteem  and opportunities for success beyond high school.

Each year Kids R First hosts several fund raising events such as: The Golf Classic, Gift Wrapping, Coins for Kids and Grants.

Kids R First has developed a major partnership with two retailers, Office Depot and Wal-Mart, to purchase school supplies in bulk quantities. In August, 2007 Office Depot and Wal-Mart provided large discounts on supplies to Kids R First  so 14,000 kids in need would have their required list of items when returning to school. 

Office Depot -Reston, VA : Major discounts on school supplies for 15,000 kids at 85 schools in Northern VA.

Wal Mart: In 2009 the Walmart in Fair Lakes, VA donated $7,500 plus major discounts for on School Supplies for 15,000 students. For information on the Wal-Mart & SAM'S CLUB Foundation can be found at www.walmartfoundation.org.

Northrop Grumman - Reston, VA: In 2009 Northrop Grumman showed their commitment to the N.VA community and donated (third year in a row) $10,000 to Kids R First.
