SCHOOL SUPPLIES PROGRAM:

       HOW DOES THIS PROGRAM WORK?

Kids R First raises funds year round from businesses, associations, and individuals in the community. Grants have been received from various organizations, corporations, and foundations.  These funds are used to purchase school supplies for every fall term.  The children targeted to receive Kids R First supplies are typically on free or reduced lunch programs.

Order Forms are sent via email in April to participating Kids R First schools.  Each school selects from the order form of (30 different items) those that will be needed by their students.  Completed forms are returned in May with requests for kids returning to school for the fall term.  After the numbers from all schools are tallied,
Kids R First then makes wholesale-priced purchases from local retailers.  Every school has a custom order tailored to their particular community's needs.

During the first week in August,  supplies are picked up and delivered to our warehouse at the Langston Hughes Middle School cafeteria in Reston, VA.  Friends of
Kids R First then sort and label all supplies for distribution to participating schools.

Representatives from each school pick up their custom-ordered supplies for counselors and parent liaisons to distribute to students before the fall term begins.   Each school has their own method of distribution.
